Lhamo Kyab self-immolates for freedom of Tibet

Publié le 25 Mars 2013 par Ling Lhamo

A 43-year-old Tibetan forest guard died after setting himself alight on Monday March 25, morning (local time).
It is believed that Lhamo Kyab, from Sangchu County, eastern Tibet, built a fire from wood and petrol, before climbing onto it. This differs from most protestors, who douse their body with petrol and set themselves alight. His remains were found by members of the local community.
Chinese military presence
Upon learning of the self-immolation, Chinese police and military immediately surrounded the site and put security restrictions in place.
Lhamo Kyab, who was unmarried, came from the Gyistang Township, which borders Bhora - a frequent flashpoint for protests.
In January 2013, locals marched on local government offices after the authorities removed the body of a self-immolator and banned anyone from visiting his home to perform the ceremonies for the dead.
And In March 2012, 40 monks at Bhora monastery were arrested following another dispute with local authorities.
More than 100 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in protest of China’s occupation.
