Golok Gabde, town of Eastern Tibet, has become an Orwellian city since March 15: In the centre of the town, on a big screen, people can see the film propaganda against self-immolations all along day. Other sources of information are cut: the government prevents access to the media and news from inside or outside world. All phone lines and internet were cut. The people who leave the house are interrogated by the police, covering the entire city, about the reasons for their move. At five o'clock in the afternoon, the time of exit from offices, there is no one in the centre of the town of 20,000 inhabitants. Only employees of the Chinese government still go regularly at work. Tibetans avoid going to work and no longer send their children to school.
These apartheid measures are taken by the Chinese authorities after the arrest of the monk Tritsen, who wrote the book on the reasons of self-immolations in Tibet. His monastery Tonkyab is subject to interrogation, expulsions of monks and forbidden to leave for those who are not expelled.
